The competition ‘F1inSchools’ is an international technology challenge for students aged 11 to 19. The idea is that, in teams of three to six, the participants develop a miniature Formula 1 car using CAD. Subsequently this car is milled out of balsa wood and equipped with a high quality varnish. Also the aerofoils and wheels are manufactured and then assembled. The teams then let their car start in a racing competition.
Of course the race time will be assessed by the jury. But also the construction and production of the car, the reaction time of the team member who starts the car, the business plan and the presentation of the team is reflected in the score and the ranking.
The aim of the competition is to create an exciting learning experience for the students. Hereby they get an insight in product development, technology and science. ‘Formula 1 in Schools’ also conveys impressions of different careers in the domain of technology to the students.
